988 Day
On September 8, 2025, communities across Indiana will join together for a statewide day of suicide prevention education in recognition of 988 Day.
The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 by call, text, or chat to provide free and immediate support for anyone experiencing emotional distress or a mental health crisis. 988 Day, observed every year on September 8 (9/8), is an opportunity to raise awareness of this vital resource and to highlight community-based education eff orts happening across Indiana and across the country.
Throughout the day, local organizations and partner agencies will host suicide prevention trainings that focus on awareness, intervention, and connection to support. These events are designed to equip Hoosiers with tools to recognize warning signs and respond when someone they know may be having thoughts of suicide.
Suicide continues to impact families and communities in Indiana at an alarming rate. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1,112 Hoosiers lost their lives to suicide in 2022. Indiana’s suicide rate was 16.3 deaths per 100,000 people, higher than the national average of 14.0.
One way communities are responding is by offering QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Gatekeeper Training at no cost or low cost on 988 Day. QPR teaches simple, proven steps that can help save a life and connect someone in crisis with lifesaving resources.
Trainings will take place in schools, libraries, churches, community centers, and other local venues across the state. The Indiana Suicide Prevention Network is proud to work with behavioral health partners, coalitions, and trainers to make these opportunities widely available in both rural and urban communities.
Upcoming Events
Collaborative Assessment & Management of Suicidality (CAMS) – September 9, 2025
Alternatives to Suicide Facilitator Training – October 28-30, 2025

About ISPN
The Indiana Suicide Prevention Network Action Committee (ISPNAC) is comprised of mental health advocates, representatives from state agencies, leaders from county/regional suicide prevention coalitions, people who serve populations that have higher suicide risk (brain injury, substance use, youth), healthcare and mental health providers, veteran/military groups, people with lived experience, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and others that are passionate about preventing suicide.
